About a Special Young Woman and Her Now Deceased Fiancée:
During her recent stint as a videographer with Esperanza! A Woman's Hope, Mattie Scott proved to be of invaluable assistance as she applied her skills in filming, editing, and various post production activities to expand public awareness with respect to the mission, values and goals of this organization. I admire Mattie as an individual who lives in alignment with her higher vision. She seeks to serve her community through a combination of professional activities, academic pursuits, and involvement with social causes that will provide opportunities for her to specialize and apply her talents in documentary films, video production, and teaching. Mattie is a likeable and "thought-full" person whom I always enjoy meeting with to discuss projects, updates, and the sharing of general conversation.
It was during one of our chats that Mattie introduced me to her fiancée, Darryl Wallace, a police officer with a strong desire to eradicate domestic violence in our community. He was as serious and committed to his work as he was to Mattie and the exciting future they were planning together. Mattie had recently graduated from Clayton State University as a communications major and Darryl had graduated a few months earlier from the Police Academy. They mutually supported and encouraged each other. They were deeply in love. Life was good. Their future was filled with expectations for the life they planned on sharing --- but events took a tragic twist. On Sunday evening, March 15th, Darryl was killed in a car accident as he rushed to respond to an incident in his precinct.
There are few things more devastating than to lose the love of your life. Most of us have experienced loss in one way or another: a fiancée, spouse, parent, sibling, child, or the loss of a cherished friend. My heart goes out to Mattie and to Darryl's family during this difficult and heart wrenching time. Please join me in keeping them in your prayers.
